The “Now-Past” concept I propose encapsulates this idea. It highlights the illusion of the present moment as a direct experience when it is, in truth, a perception of something that no longer exists in its original form. This concept emphasizes the temporal disconnect between the reality of the moment and our experience of it. The camera, with its mechanical and chemical processes, serves as a metaphor for this disconnect, capturing a series of ‘nows’ that are already past by the time they are perceived. In essence, every image, every frame is a testament to the ever-receding present, an ongoing record of a reality that has already slipped into history by the time we become aware of it.
